Areas of Practice - Family, Crime, Civil

Angela originally studied for a joint honours degree in English Literature with Cultural Criticism at Cardiff University, obtaining a 2:1 in 2005. She was then awarded a commendation in the Graduate Diploma in Law from the University of Glamorgan.

She successfully completed the Bar Vocational Course at Cardiff Law School where she was assessed as "Outstanding" having achieved outstanding marks in advocacy, family law and drafting amongst others.

Angela joined chambers as a tenant in September 2010 having successfully completed her pupillage in the areas of Family (Matthew Rees) and Criminal (Dyfed Thomas). She is developing a busy and varied practice, accepting instructions in all areas of law.

Family

Angela has a growing family practice incorporating both Private and Public Law children matters. In particular she has experience conducting contested interim and final hearings in relation to residence and contact applications in the Family Proceedings Court and the County Court. She is instructed in applications for injunctive relief, including ex parte applications, and she regularly appears for both Applicants and Respondents. Angela is increasingly instructed in Public Law proceedings and has acted for parents and interveners in care proceedings, including emergency applications. Her practice incorporates ancillary relief matters and she has appeared on behalf of Applicants and Respondents at case management and final hearings.

Crime

Angela accepts instructions in all areas of criminal law and regularly acts on behalf of the Prosecution and Defence. She has experience conducting trials in the Magistrates Court in relation to a variety of offences including assaults, drugs offences, theft and motoring offences. She also regularly appears in the Crown Court dealing with matters such as bail applications, preliminary hearings, plea and case management hearings, sentencing hearings, Proceeds of Crime Act Applications and appeals against conviction and/or sentence.

Angela has been instructed to prosecute on behalf of the Department for Work and Pensions and has appeared on behalf of Applicants at Benefit Tribunals in relation to appeals against the cessation or refusal of benefits. She also regularly prosecutes in both the Magistrates and Crown Courts on behalf of SERCO monitoring in respect of alleged breaches of electronically monitored curfew orders.

Civil

Angela accepts instructions in all areas of civil litigation and regularly appears in the County Court on behalf of Claimants and Defendants. She has experience conducting a variety of hearings from infant approvals, applications for summary judgment, applications to set aside default judgment and contested small claims hearings. She has experience dealing with matters relating to personal injuries and road traffic collisions as well as more general breach of contract matters.

Prior to commencing pupillage, Angela spent a year working as a freelance advocate in the County Court specialising in debt recovery proceedings. During that time she gained a broad experience of contested hearings before District Judges in matters such as mortgage possessions, charging orders, bankruptcy hearings, infant settlements, orders for sale, summary judgment applications, applications to set aside default judgment and hearings relating to consumer credit act regulated agreements.
