Dominic has been in practice since being called to the bar in 1991. Before returning to the independent bar in 2006 Dominic was head of child care law for one of Wales's largest local authorities.
Initially practising in the area of general civil litigation with a special interest in housing and social services law Dominic has for the last10 years practised in the area of child related law.
Acting on behalf of children, parents and local authorities Dominic has undertaken the full range of care related cases including cases of the gravest seriousness including child death, physical and sexual abuse and very serious injury. Dominic has been involved in serious case reviews and child protection case management. Most recently Dominic has undertaken a number of cases with a significant international element involving removal from the jurisdiction and placement of children with foreign nationals.
As part of his practise Dominic has undertaken Judicial Review cases concerning the provision of services to children and parents by both local government and the Welsh Assembly Government.
Dominic has been involved in a number of applications for declarations and injunctive relief under the Human Rights legislation acting on behalf of parents and children.
In order to develop the fields of judicial review and human rights law as part of the child care "toolkit" for family practitioners Dominic has lectured on the use of these processes to secure successful outcomes for clients both pre and post issue.
Dominic has also acted for parents of children in the full range of private child cases including those where serious allegations are made by one parent against the other. As part of this Dominic was Counsel involved in the leading decision relating to shared parenting and joint residence orders and has contributed to Hershman & McFarlane.
In addition to cases directly concerned with children Dominic also undertakes the full range of ancillary relief. Having practised for many years in mid-Wales Dominic has been fortunate to undertake many cases involving farming and agricultural related businesses.
